Payroll Specialist

Job Description

We are currently searching for a Payroll Specialist for our customer in the Reynoldsburg, OH area.  This is a direct hire opportunity.  
 
Responsibilities:
The Payroll Specialist will be under the direction of the Senior Payroll Specialist and is responsible for learning the timely and accurate processing of payroll for multiple business locations, including 400+ employees’ weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly payroll and reconciling time cards. The Payroll Specialist will enter various journal entries, prepare account reconciliations, provide General Ledger support, and maintain individual payroll records. Payroll processing will include multiple pay types, including special pay structures.
 
  • Process payroll for domestic and multi-state operations and review payroll reports from third-party agencies that manage payroll.
  • Prepares filing of required reports and/or payments to insurance carriers, other organizations, and individual employees.
  • Maintains employee payroll records.
  • Ensures that all taxes, Social Security contributions, contributions to employee benefit programs, and other deductions are withheld from individual paychecks.
  • Compile payroll data such as garnishments, vacation time, insurance, and 401(k) deductions.
  • Process transfer of payroll data which includes the review and approval of payroll deductions.
  • Must be able to prepare payroll reports and comply with federal and state tax withholding requirements.
  • Must be able to interface with various levels of personnel within the company.
  • Must be able to work independently and work well in a team environment as necessary.
  • Balance and post payroll journals, resolving any discrepancies.
  • Process fringe benefit reports.
  • Balance W-2 forms and taxes for all affiliates and divisions.
  • Prepare and check monthly general ledger journal entries.
  • Interprets company policies and government regulations affecting payroll procedures.
  • Partner with the Corporate Treasury to generate the appropriate wire transfer documents and monitor the timely generation of bank transactions.
  • Assist in the monthly accounting close processes.
  • Provide executive management team with payroll reports and ad hoc analysis.
  • Support internal audits, SOX, and JSOX compliance processes.
  • Facilitate employee understanding of payroll procedures.

Job Requirements

  • Experience with a manufacturing company is preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in Excel.
  • Be a strong team player.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Have the ability to analyze problems and provide problem resolutions.
  • Have solid analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Exceptional organization skills, including the ability to plan, schedule, meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and work well under pressure.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees and regulatory agencies.

Education and Experience:

  • Associates degree in related fields such as Accounting or Business is preferred or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible payroll processing experience.
  • ADP© WorkforceNow v9.12 experience preferred.
  • Must have a strong background in payroll systems, payroll report writing, and Microsoft Excel.
